Full-Stack SEO (Technical + Content)
Marketing & Communications, Software Engineering, IT
New York, NY, USA · Remote
About this role:
We're hiring a Full-Stack SEO to own organic search at Valur. Most SEO roles are half a job: content people who can't read a crawl, or technical people who can't write. This is the whole job — you'll diagnose and fix technical issues across our content properties, set the query-level roadmap, write and edit high-stakes financial content, and direct contractors to your quality bar. Organic is a core acquisition channel for us, and one exceptional person will run it.
We have a specific profile in mind because it's the one that's worked: agency training early in your career, followed by in-house ownership of organic at one or more startups, with the technical depth to debug a rankings drop without a checklist.
If you're interested, please send a short note describing the hardest technical SEO problem you've personally diagnosed and fixed (cannibalization, declining rankings, thin or bloated content, indexation) — the symptom, the root cause, the plan you built, and the result.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own technical and on-page SEO across Valur's content properties: diagnose cannibalization, keyword mapping, content gaps, and decay, and build the plan to fix them
- Prioritize the queries each page should win and make the call on each piece of content: rewrite, shorten, consolidate, expand, or re-optimize around those target keywords.
- Develop outlines, briefs, and topic strategy for webinars and video; direct contractors and designers to build decks and cut video into snippets for SEO and social
- Manage internal experts and contractors to a clear quality bar, executing directly where that's needed
- Track organic performance and report on what's working, feeding insights back into the content roadmap
- Partner with Growth and Product to make sure content supports lead generation and the advisor and client journey
Key Traits:
- SEO Diagnostician: You see a content property and immediately spot what's cannibalizing, what's decaying, and what to prioritize. You build plans, not just observations.
- Technical Depth: You're the person others bring rankings mysteries to. Ahrefs/SEMrush/GSC fluency is assumed; you can go from a crawl export to a fix plan without hand-holding.
- Strategic Orchestrator: You know which work to do yourself and which to push to contractors, and you can manage that production without dropping the quality bar.Range Across Formats:** Comfortable moving from a keyword-mapping spreadsheet to a webinar outline to a backlink pitch.
- Startup Mentality: Energized by fast-paced environments, thrive on ambiguity, and getting your hands dirty.
- Teacher's Instinct: You can take dense, technical subject matter and make it land for a real audience.
Qualifications:
- 4+ years in SEO, content strategy, or content marketing, with demonstrable technical SEO depth (not just writing).
- Agency experience early in your career (SEO or content agency — you've worked across many sites and verticals) plus at least one in-house role at a startup where you owned organic as a channel.
- Proven ability to diagnose and fix content issues — cannibalization, keyword mapping, content consolidation, refresh strategy — with real results to point to (be ready to walk us through the numbers).
- Hands-on proficiency with SEO tooling (Ahrefs, SEMrush, Moz, Google Search Console) and CMS platforms (WordPress, Webflow). Bonus for programmatic SEO, basic scripting, or shipping free tools.
- Experience developing content beyond the blog — webinars, video, lead magnets — and directing contractors or designers to produce it.
- A track record building backlinks through creating the right content and content partnerships through outreach and collaboration.
- Strong editorial judgment and the ability to translate complex financial or technical concepts into clear, compelling content.
- What we're not looking for: enterprise SEO specialists who owned one function of a large program, or career freelancers — this role requires having been embedded in a startup team, on the hook for a number.
- Bonus: familiarity with financial services, wealth management, or an audience of advisors and high-net-worth clients.
What We Offer:
- An opportunity to play a critical role in a rapidly growing company.
- A collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Remote roles and lots of growth.
- Competitive salary + stock options.
About the Company:
At Valur, we are on a mission to democratize tax strategies that have traditionally been reserved for the ultra-wealthy. Similar to how Roman Health and Hims revolutionized access to healthcare, we are building the system to streamline complex tax planning tools — making them smart, simple, and accessible to everyone.
We started by simplifying the creation and management of irrevocable trusts, and today, we offer a full suite of solutions to address capital gains, income, and estate and gift tax obligations. Our proprietary platform delivers real-time tools and education, enabling individuals and their advisors to evaluate, select, and implement best-in-class tax mitigation strategies — from trust-based solutions to investments in solar energy partnerships.
The proof is in the results: We have scaled quickly to 7-figures of annual revenue with 15 team members, and have partnerships with some of the top investment advisory firms in the business. Given that traction, we have raised money from a group of top early-stage investors, including Vibe Capital, Box Group, Canaan Partners, BasisSet, and notable angels. As demand accelerates, we are expanding our team to help more individuals preserve and grow their wealth.
Our Values:
Customer Centricity: Our job is to be our customer’s best partner.
Ownership: Everyone here is an owner. We identify problems and solve them.
Growth: We’re never satisfied; we aim to be better every day.
Urgency: We prioritize the highest-impact work and solve it now.
