About Valur
At Valur, we're on a mission to democratize innovative tax-planning strategies, making them affordable and accessible to everyone. Just as Roman Health and Hims productized regulated healthcare to make it more accessible, we're streamlining the tax-planning tools of the ultra-rich to make them affordable and available to everyone.
The proof is in the results: we've scaled to mid-7-figure annual revenue and now manage more than $1 billion in assets through direct-to-consumer engagement and partnerships with some of the top investment and financial firms in the business. On the back of that traction, we've raised around $5 million from top early-stage investors, including Box Group, Canaan, BasisSet, Vibe Capital, and notable angels.
We're still a small team, which means each engineer has a lot of impact.
Our Values
- Customer Centricity - Our job is to be our customer's best partner.
- Ownership - Everyone here is an owner. We identify problems and solve them.
- Growth - We're never satisfied; we aim to be better every day.
- Urgency - We prioritize the highest-impact work and solve it now.
What We've Built
- A financial-planning decision engine
- Tax-planning calculators with deep quantitative results and clear visualizations
- AI agents for customer support and recommendations
- Client onboarding and account-management tools
- Internal tools that help our operations team scale
- Infrastructure for managing complex tax-planning workflows
What We're Building Next
- Integrations with financial institutions, custodians, and data providers
- Better tools for tracking assets and optimizing tax outcomes over time
- More advanced AI recommendation systems and RAG-based assistants for customers, advisors, and internal teams
- B2B2C tools for financial advisors
- More automation around onboarding, documents, trust administration, and tax workflows
- Better internal systems so a small team can serve thousands of customers
About the Role
We're looking for a full-stack product engineer who works the way the best engineers work today: AI-native, fast, and accountable for everything that ships.
This isn't a narrow frontend or backend role. We need someone who works across the stack, understands the product, talks through tradeoffs, and ships complete features - using AI tools and coding agents to move faster without lowering the quality bar. You'll partner closely with our designer (who owns UX/UI), as well as product, operations, and leadership, to decide what to build.
How We Work With AI
AI is core to how we build, not just what we ship. Coding agents, structured prompts, and automation are part of our daily workflow - we use them to explore the codebase, draft implementations, generate tests, refactor, write docs, and automate operations.
But AI doesn't replace engineering judgment. The best engineers here aren't just "AI users" - they're good managers of AI: they give clear context, break work into small steps, verify the output, and own the code they ship. You know when to lean on AI and when to slow down - which matters most in our domain, where a small mistake in tax logic, financial calculations, or legal documents can have large consequences.
What You'll Do
- Build full-stack product features from idea to production - frontend, backend APIs, data models, admin tools, tests, and deployment
- Turn ambiguous product ideas into clear technical plans
- Partner with design, product, operations, and leadership to decide what to build
- Use AI tools and coding agents to accelerate implementation, testing, debugging, refactoring, and documentation - and review what they produce before it ships
- Write clear specs, prompts, and implementation plans that humans and AI agents can follow
- Build solid tests around important business logic, especially tax and financial calculations
- Improve our onboarding, calculator, trust-management, and advisor-facing products - plus the AI-powered support, recommendation, and operations tools behind them
- Help automate manual operations so a small team can serve thousands of customers
- Improve CI/CD, deployment, observability, and production support - and keep the system simple and maintainable
Tech Stack
You don't need to know every tool in our stack before joining, but you should be able to learn quickly. Our current stack includes:
- Languages: Python, JavaScript, TypeScript
- Frontend: Vue 3, Vite, Tailwind
- Backend: Django, Django Admin, Flask, asyncio, PostgreSQL
- Infrastructure: AWS, Linux, bash scripting
- AI: OpenAI, LangChain, RAG, AI agents, internal automation workflows
- Testing & quality: Playwright, unit tests, integration tests, GitHub Actions, Sentry
- Design & prototyping: Figma
What Makes You Successful Here
- Startup mentality - You're energized by fast-paced environments, comfortable with ambiguity, and proactive about finding and solving problems.
- End-to-end ownership - You own features from idea to production: code, edge cases, tests, UX, deployment, monitoring, and follow-up.
- High leverage with AI - You use AI tools to multiply your output without losing control of the system.
- Craft and judgment - You write code other people can understand, care about the details, and have an eye for good product and UX.
- Customer and business focus - You care about users and outcomes, not just shipping code, and can explain complex concepts clearly.
- Growth - You're eager to improve the system around you, not just complete assigned tasks.
You may not enjoy this role if you need detailed instructions for every task, only want to work in one narrow part of the stack, or prefer large-company processes with many layers of review before anything changes.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has built and shipped important features before. You don't need fintech experience, but you should be interested in learning complex financial and tax products.
- 4+ years of full-stack software engineering experience
- A track record of shipping production software used by real users
- Ability to build across frontend, backend, database, infrastructure, and tests
- Experience with Django, Vue
- Good judgment around testing, observability, scalability, and maintainability
- Comfort writing technical proposals and explaining tradeoffs
- Comfort using AI coding tools, agents, and LLMs in daily work - and reviewing their output critically
- Strong written and verbal English communication (we're a distributed team)
- Strong attention to detail, high ownership, low ego
Nice to Have
- Experience with fintech, tax, wealth management, legaltech, or other regulated domains
- Experience building AI-powered products (LLM APIs, RAG, agents, tool-calling) with tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or LangChain
- Experience building internal tools for operations-heavy teams
- Experience improving CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, or developer productivity
- Experience taking a product from zero to one
What We Offer
- Remote-first - we hire the best people wherever they are
- A critical role in a fast-growing company, with direct impact and direct access to leadership
- A small, efficient team (under 15) with little bureaucracy
- A lot of ownership and personal growth
- Competitive salary and meaningful equity, so you share in the upside
How to Stand Out
Show us something you've shipped - a product feature, internal tool, automation, AI workflow, complex refactor, or a system you built from scratch. We'd also love to hear how you use AI in your engineering work: what tools you use, what you trust them with, what you always check yourself, and where they've made you faster or failed. We're looking for engineers who use the new tools well but still think clearly.
