About Gem
Gem is a California Series C startup and the only AI-first all-in-one recruiting platform with a strong trajectory and ambitious plans to modernize the recruiting industry – a market of over $250B. We have a small but highly capable team in San Francisco, with engineers from Facebook, Dropbox, Uber, MIT, and Stanford, as well as the beginnings of a strong team in Sofia. Over 1,000 industry leaders, including Anthropic, Reddit, Figma, Zillow, Robinhood, and DoorDash, trust Gem to fuel their growth and recognize Gem as one of the highest-satisfaction products on G2 with a 4.8/5.0 rating. The company has raised $148M from renowned investors, including Accel, Greylock, ICONIQ, Sapphire, and Meritech.
About the role
As a founding Product Designer on our growing Sofia EPD (Engineering Product Design) team, you won't just execute on a backlog — you'll help shape how Gem looks, feels, and works for thousands of recruiters and talent leaders across the US. You'll own design for mission-critical product areas, including Gem Scheduling, our Enterprise Platform (admin settings, permissions, RBAC), Talent Compass, and Talent Marketing, partnering closely with engineering and product managers in Sofia and US-based designers and stakeholders in San Francisco.
This is a rare opportunity to work on a product that customers genuinely love — and to do it from the ground up in a Sofia team.
What are we looking for
- A full-spectrum product designer: from user research and problem framing, through flows and interaction design, to polished visual execution and detailed specs
- Someone with a strong product and design point of view — able to deeply understand user problems, form their own POV on the right solution, and articulate and defend it
- Ability to translate complex user needs and rich datasets into clear, actionable, and visually compelling UI — particularly in enterprise contexts where users are trying to surface insights and drive decisions
- Experience designing end-to-end flows in web applications, not just screens in isolation
- A collaborative partner to engineering: comfortable working iteratively, participating in sprint cycles, and evolving designs based on real implementation feedback — not throwing work over the fence
- Strong communication skills — able to present and discuss design decisions clearly with cross-functional partners across time zones
About You
- Minimum 5+ years of product design experience (7/8+ years preferred), with a portfolio of shipped products
- Experience designing complex web applications — B2B SaaS, enterprise tools, or products with rich workflow and data surfaces. We're not the right fit for designers whose background is primarily in branding, illustration, video games, or consumer-only apps
- Strong UX fundamentals paired with capable visual design execution
- Proven ability to work directly and iteratively with engineering teams
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and driving toward clarity without waiting for perfect direction
- Ability to maintain reasonable overlap with San Francisco working hours for cross-team syncs (approximately 8–10 AM PST / 6–8 PM EET, ~1 weekly team sync).
Nice to have (not required):
- Experience designing analytics dashboards, admin surfaces, or data-dense reporting UIs
- Familiarity with the Talent Acquisition or recruiting domain
- Experience at a venture-backed startup
Bonus Points If You Have
- Shipped enterprise B2B SaaS products used by large organizations
- Contributed to or maintained a design system
Benefits
- Highly competitive salary & equity
- 20+5 paid days off
- 17 paid holidays, including national holidays and regular company-wide wellness days
- Additional health insurance
- 610 EUR/ annual budget for learning and development opportunities
- Additional up to 16 weeks of Paid Parental Leave for birthing and non-birthing parents
- New Parent Perks totaling 760 EUR and flexibility upon return to work
