As an Engineering Operations Specialist, you will be a strategic force behind operational excellence in Smartly’s Product Development organisation. Partnering closely with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership, you will drive efficiency, accountability, and continuous improvement across our delivery lifecycle. This role is both tactical and strategic: enabling day-to-day velocity while shaping long-term operational capabilities.

You'll oversee the tools, rituals, and metrics that power Smartly’s 25+ development teams, ensuring that visibility, governance, and agility are baked into how we build products.

As an Engineering Operations Specialist at Smartly, you will…

Jira Administration & Workflow Optimisation

• Own Jira administration across Product Development: workflows, dashboards, automation, and reporting.
• Streamline task management by implementing Initiative types, Story Points, and hierarchy best practices.
• Resolve Jira-related issues within 1 business day and maintain low support volume by empowering teams.

Engineering Productivity & Metrics

• Drive adoption of SPACE and DORA metrics to improve team satisfaction and performance.
• Lead monthly reviews and publish monthly DORA dashboards for engineering leadership.
• Use data to identify process bottlenecks and partner with teams on tailored improvements.

Agile & Delivery Enablement

• Coach teams on agile principles, story sizing, planning, and backlog health.
• Lead training on Jira usage, initiative planning, story points, and estimation practices.
• Foster autonomy and self-organisation while setting clear expectations for delivery consistency.

Operational Excellence

• Orchestrate cross-functional delivery and surface engineering performance across the organisation.
• Lead bi-weekly Demos and the monthly Engineering Community of Practice to promote transparency and knowledge sharing.
• Ensure visibility into delivery health through live dashboards, continuous reporting, and cadence rituals.

Project Management

• Project manage small-scale initiatives across multiple teams, ensuring clear ownership, alignment, and timely execution.
• Track progress, manage risks, and escalate blockers to ensure successful delivery without adding unnecessary overhead.

Business Operations Support

• Own the operational side of R&D Capitalisation tracking and audit readiness.
• Manage sprint rituals, completion rate metrics, and velocity tracking to drive predictable delivery.

We're definitely looking for you if you…

• 5+ years of experience in engineering operations, software delivery management, or technical program management.
• Deep Jira expertise, including configuration, project hierarchy, automation, and reporting.
• Strong working knowledge of agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, SAFe, Lean).
• Proficiency with engineering metrics: DORA, SPACE, story points, lead time, and velocity.
• Demonstrated experience in managing small to medium-sized cross-team projects.
• Familiarity with tools like Swarmia, GitHub, Redash, Confluence, and similar platforms.
• Proven track record of influencing without authority and driving adoption of best practices across engineering teams.
• Ability to distil complex operational insights into clear, actionable recommendations.
