About this role

Reflex is growing fast, and we’re looking for an HR leader to build out the compliance and HR function to support us in our mission to build the best way to work in retail. In this role you will play an important role in scaling our business by supporting both our internal corporate HR needs while ensuring compliance and a positive experience for all of our workers (we call them Reflexers) as they work in retail stores across the US. As we continue to grow and incorporate new markets, you will be responsible for understanding compliance in all markets and ensuring our workers are properly onboarded, managed, and, when necessary, offboarded. Our workers are the heart of all we do at Reflexers and we are looking for a versatile HR professional to support them as they grow with us.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Designing and implementing processes that help scale the Reflexer side of the business as we scale to increasingly complex compliance geographies this includes

    • Ensure ongoing compliance with corporate policies / practices and with applicable laws and regulations; addresses and resolves issues of noncompliance promptly and effectively

    • Manage compliance with Federal and State Labor Laws, FMLA, Workers Compensation and Unemployment regulations

    • Respond to unemployment claims and employment verifications in a timely and accurate manner

    • As necessary, promptly addresses all worker separations, while remaining compliant to various state DOL reporting requirements

  • As the first HR hire, support the growing team at HQ as an HR business partner which includes

    • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, from job posting to onboarding, for internal open positions

    • Partner with leadership on performance reviews, manager coaching, benefits, culture crew, onboarding and other people ops projects on an as needed basis

What you should have:

  • 7+ years experience as an HR Generalist or a similar role

  • Strong understanding of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills

  • Ability to make timely, effective, principles-based decisions

  • A self-starter who is organized, has high attention to detail and is familiar with a fast-paced startup environment. Ability to work independently and operate in ambiguity.

  • A passion for reinventing retail - a plus if you’ve worked in retail

  • Paralegal experience is a plus!
