At Quantum Circuits Inc., we are building the world’s first truly algorithmic quantum computers to achieve transformational computing capabilities. Our full-stack quantum computing platform uses superconducting devices along with a modular, robust, and scalable architecture. Our unique approach is based on a decade of technology research and breakthroughs at Yale University's world-renowned quantum labs.
We are seeking a talented and experienced IT Operations & Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic team at QCI. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in systems administration and network engineering for midsize environments. Your role will involve developing and enhancing key components of QCI’s core IT infrastructure. You will be instrumental in contributing to creative architectural designs and will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop, refine, and deploy innovative infrastructure solutions. We value engineers who have diverse experiences across distributed systems, data streaming, scientific computing, embedded systems, networking, and real-time control systems.

  • Architect and build efficient, reliable, and maintainable core IT systems for daily office operations as well as for a high availability, high performing platform to host quantum control systems and software infrastructure.
  • Manage and maintain network infrastructure, including configuring and overseeing DHCP, DNS, and VPN services; creating and managing VLANs; implementing firewall rules; and overseeing the routing of network traffic.
  • Administer Microsoft systems and services, including managing Active Directory, deploying software and updates using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, and overseeing Group Policy settings to ensure secure and efficient network operations.
  • Provide comprehensive support for multiple operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and embedded systems, ensuring their seamless operation, integration, and optimal performance across the organizational infrastructure.
  • This position is hybrid. While there is flexibility to work from home, it requires regular onsite presence at our main office in New Haven, CT. Additionally, the role entails responding to onsite issues that cannot be effectively managed remotely.
  • Off-hour support on and off site may be necessary at times.
  • Sponsorship available.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field. While a formal educational background is preferred, relevant experience in network and systems administration will also be considered.
  • 3+ years professional experience in an IT Operations and/or Infrastructure Software Engineering role
  • Proficiency in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, subnetting, and routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF)
  • Experience with the setup, configuration, security and troubleshooting of network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points from various vendors (e.g., Ubiquity, FS, Juniper, Cisco).
  • Knowledge of Active Directory for identity and access management, Group Policy for central management, and automation of the deployment of settings and security policies.
  • Experience with Windows Server environments, including setup, administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong command over Linux operating systems, including installation, configuration, system management, and troubleshooting. Familiarity with popular distributions like Ubuntu or Red Hat.
  • Knowledge of Linux-based services and server configurations (Apache, NGINX, SSH, FTP, etc.).
  • Experience with virtualization tools and platforms, such as VMware for creating and managing virtual machines and environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scripting skills in Bash or other shell environments for automation and routine tasks.
  • Knowledge of container technologies like Docker and container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, particularly in how they are deployed and managed in Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with tools for network monitoring, management, and analysis (e.g., Zabbix, SolarWinds, Nagios, Wireshark) to diagnose issues, monitor network health, and optimize performance.
  • Knowledge of cloud services and how to integrate cloud resources with on-premises networks including network addressable storage
  • Skills with automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate repetitive tasks and manage network configurations more efficiently.
  • Familiarity and use of CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, Travis, Actions, Bitbucket, …)
