Hermeus is a high-speed aircraft manufacturer focused on the rapid design, build, and test of high-Mach and hypersonic aircraft for the national interest. Working directly with the Department of Defense, Hermeus delivers capabilities that will ensure that our nation, and our allies, maintain an asymmetric advantage over any and all potential adversaries.
We are seeking a Quality Inspector to join our growing team and ensure the highest level of quality and reliability across all hardware produced at our facility. As one of the first inspectors on-site, you will play a key role in establishing inspection standards, methods, and processes to support the production of precision aerospace and defense components.
This position requires a highly detail-oriented, hands-on professional with a deep understanding of mechanical inspection, precision measurement, and documentation practices. You’ll work directly with manufacturing, quality engineering, and design teams to ensure all parts meet dimensional and process conformance requirements — from prototype through production.
Responsibilities
- Perform dimensional and visual inspections on complex mechanical and welded components using precision measurement tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, FARO arm).
- Verify parts and assemblies against engineering drawings, models, and specifications using GD&T principles.
- Conduct in-process, first-article, and final inspections, ensuring all product meets design and process requirements prior to release.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, work orders, and technical documentation to identify inspection criteria.
- Create, complete, and maintain inspection reports, non-conformance documentation, and traceability records in accordance with internal quality standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing engineers, technicians, and quality engineers to drive root cause analysis and corrective action on non-conformances.
- Assist in the development of inspection methods, tooling, and quality procedures to improve efficiency and repeatability.
- Support supplier part verification and incoming inspection for purchased or outsourced components.
- Maintain and calibrate inspection tools and gages in compliance with calibration schedules and quality system requirements.
- Contribute to a continuous improvement culture focused on process capability, accuracy, and throughput.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification in mechanical inspection, manufacturing, or metrology preferred.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical inspection within aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturing environments.
- Strong proficiency with precision measurement tools and metrology equipment, including CMMs and optical measurement systems.
- Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings.
- Experience inspecting tight-tolerance metallic components such as machined, welded, or sheet metal assemblies.
- Proven ability to document, communicate, and resolve quality issues effectively in collaboration with engineering teams.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with CMM programming (PC-DMIS, Verisurf, or similar).
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or equivalent quality management systems.
- Knowledge of NDT methods (visual, dye penetrant, radiographic, or ultrasonic inspection).
- Experience working in a high-mix, low-volume production environment with rapid iteration cycles.
- Proficiency with ERP or quality management software systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or Solumina).
- Strong communication and documentation skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to be hands-on on the manufacturing floor daily.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and work around industrial equipment as needed.
- Flexible schedule may be required to support production priorities and critical milestones.
