Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. The company aims to develop hypersonic aircraft quickly and cost-effectively by integrating hardware-rich, iterative development with modern computing and autonomy. This approach has been validated through design, build, and test of the company’s first combined turbojet-ramjet engine and is now being scaled through its first flight vehicle program, Quarterhorse. Hermeus is also developing Darkhorse — an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed to deliver unique asymmetric capabilities to the warfighter.
In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing and optimizing the structural components of our hypersonic aircraft, ensuring they meet all safety, performance, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed analyses of aircraft structures using both classical methods and advanced finite element analysis (FEA) tools to ensure structural integrity under various loading conditions
  • Collaborate to select appropriate materials that meet design requirements for strength, weight, and durability
  • Work closely with design engineers to optimize structural designs for weight, manufacturability, and performance
  • Develop and oversee structural testing plans to validate analysis results and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation detailing analysis methods, results, and recommendations
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, including aerodynamics, propulsion, and manufacturing, to ensure integrated and efficient aircraft design

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3 or more years of experience in structural analysis within the aerospace industry
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis (FEA) software such as ANSYS, NASTRAN, or similar tools
  • Strong understanding of aerospace materials and their properties
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., NX, CATIA, SolidWorks) for reviewing and interpreting designs
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, and dynamic team environment

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in structural analysis with a focus on high-speed or hypersonic vehicles preferred
