About Clutch

We’re on a mission to reinvent the way people buy, sell, and own cars.

Clutch is Canada’s largest online used car retailer, delivering a seamless, hassle-free car buying and selling experience to drivers everywhere. Customers can browse hundreds of cars from the comfort of their home, get the right one delivered to their door, and enjoy peace of mind with our 10-Day Money-Back Guarantee… and that’s just the beginning.

Named two years in a row to the Globe & Mail’s list of the Top Growing Companies in Canada and also awarded spots on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50™ and Fast 500™ lists, we’re looking to add curious, hard-working, and driven individuals to our growing team.

Headquartered in Toronto, Clutch was founded in 2017 and currently services Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Clutch is backed by a number of world-class investors, including D1 Capital, Altos Ventures, BMO Capital Partners, Canaan, Real Ventures, and others. To learn more, visit clutch.ca.

We’re growing rapidly, with in‑house re‑conditioning centres, a captive lending platform and a national logistics network, we combine manufacturing‑grade operations with tech‑enabled consumer experience. We plan to list publicly within 24–36 months and are building the finance foundation to get there.

The role

You will be Clutch’s first Director of Strategic Finance, owning the live three-statement model, leading company-wide budgeting and variance analysis, partnering with the executive team to lead capital allocation strategy, leading corporate development / M&A efforts, and quarterbacking every equity, debt and leasing raise until Capital Markets spins out as a standalone team.

What you’ll do

  • Build and continuously re-base a monthly → 3-year model; deliver board-quality variance narratives.
  • Partner with the CFO, CEO, and founder on capital allocation decisions, and business unit leaders on capacity planning, market sizing and pricing decisions.
  • Lead capital-markets processes (equity rounds, warehouse lines, fleet sale-leasebacks): build scenarios, manage data rooms, drive diligence.
  • Institutionalise FP&A rhythms: annual budget, quarterly re-forecast, department reviews, KPI scorecards.
  • Partner with the CEO and CFO on corporate development and M&A efforts.
  • Recruit, mentor and scale a high-performing team (initially the Manager + analyst bench).

What you bring

  • 8-12 yrs total experience: 2-4 yrs IB/PE plus 3-5 yrs strategic-finance/FP&A leadership in a high-growth tech or asset-heavy scale-up.
  • Relentless attention to detail, ownership mentality, and a passion for building processes from the ground up (and iterating on them to improve automation and efficiency, and improve accuracy).
  • Insatiable curiously about our business, its key drivers, and how to optimize it. You’ll constantly ask questions of our data, our performance, and our strategic direction that will help us improve the business daily.
  • Elite Google-Sheets modelling; SQL/Snowflake/Looker fluency.
  • Experience building and leading teams.
  • Executive-ready communication, with an ability to translate financial insights to non‑finance partners.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and leaders, and to influence outcomes without having direct authority.
  • End-to-end fundraising execution (Series C+, credit facilities or IPO readiness).

Nice to have

  • Marketplace, automotive, fintech or logistics exposure.
  • Experience implementing FP&A/treasury systems.

Why Clutch

  • Green-field build: architect the finance stack that underpins a future TSX/NYSE listing.
  • Operational depth: ecommerce, manufacturing and fintech under one roof.
  • High-calibre team: report directly to a CFO who sees finance as a strategic weapon.
  • Competitive package: market cash, meaningful equity, full benefits, and an in‑office culture built on transparency and pace.
