Who We Are
At Apartment List, we’re transforming how people rent—making it smarter, easier, and a lot less frustrating. Our platform has already matched over 1.4 million renters with their next home, while helping properties fill units with the right residents. Backed by strong growth and a big vision, we’re building the future of renting—and inviting bold thinkers to help us shape it!
About the role
We're looking for a technical recruiter who can step in and run full-cycle searches across Engineering and other technical roles. This is a 6–9 month contract built around real ownership: your own req load, direct partnership with hiring managers, and full accountability for pipeline health and offers. You'll bring recruiting experience from a company at a similar size and stage, so you can take on that ownership from the start.
Here's what you'll do as part of the team
- Own full-cycle recruiting for a portfolio of technical roles, from intake through offer through close
- Partner directly with hiring managers to define role scope, calibrate must-haves, and build a hiring strategy for each req
- Source and engage passive technical talent, building pipeline that doesn't depend solely on inbound applications
- Run structured phone screens that accurately assess technical background, motivation, and fit against the role profile
- Guide candidates through Apartment List's interview process, keeping them informed and engaged at every stage
- Use pipeline data to flag bottlenecks early and adjust sourcing strategy before a req stalls
- Represent Apartment List's hiring brand and standards consistently, from first outreach through offer negotiation
Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be successful
Must-haves:
- 5+ of years of experience in technical sourcing and/or recruiting, with at least 3 years running full-cycle searches independently
- Demonstrated ability to utilize advanced talent platforms such as LinkedIn Recruiter, Gem Sourcing, and specialized technical sourcing tools to identify and engage passive candidates.
- Proven experience to manage multiple competing priorities, and searches with minimal guidance
- Excellent communication - you can navigate sensitive information, complex offer negotiations, and create an exceptional candidate experience
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience recruiting at a company of similar size and stage to Apartment List, and the judgment that comes with it
- Experience recruiting for data, infrastructure, or security roles specifically, in addition to core software engineering
- Experience with Gem, Ashby or similar ATS/sourcing tooling (we use Gem/MetaView)
- Familiarity with using AI tools to improve sourcing efficiency or candidate research
Here's the Pay Range:
At Apartment List, we carefully consider a variety of factors to determine compensation for each position, including the role, level, and work.
We are looking for a 1099 independent contractor at an hourly rate of $100–$150, based on experience and scope. This is a contract position (6–9 months) and does not include Apartment List employee benefits
We also rely on market indicators along with considering your work location, job related skills, experience and relevant education and training, to determine compensation that is fair and competitive for you. Apartment List will consider paying compensation near the higher of the range in exceptional circumstances, where candidates have the experience, credentials or expertise that would warrant such consideration. It is always our goal to hire exceptional talent and we would be happy to share more about compensation during the hiring process.
