Who We Are
We're looking for someone to reimagine how Apartment List approaches content. We have incredible renter insights, unique market data, and a product that genuinely helps renters. This is a chance to build something at a company that's already proven its value to millions of renters.
You'll be working directly with the Senior SEO Manager, the brand and product marketing teams, the growth team, and the product and engineering team to turn our deep understanding of the rental market into content that drives our business. This isn't about cranking out blog posts—it's about creating content experiences that make Apartment List the definitive resource for anyone navigating the rental market.
What You'll Do
You'll develop and execute comprehensive content strategies that work seamlessly across organic growth, paid amplification, and brand building—all while leveraging AI to scale what works. Working with our brand team to execute creatively and partnering with product marketing and product teams for insights, you'll build content systems and processes that drive measurable results.
This contract is designed to give you time to establish frameworks and strategies that demonstrably work for our business. If you successfully build sustainable systems that drive results, we'll transition you to a full-time role with competitive salary and equity.
Timeline & Expectations
Early Focus (First Month) Assess our current content ecosystem, dive deep into user data and product insights with product marketing and product teams, develop integrated content strategy that works across organic/paid/brand objectives, and begin strategic briefing processes with our brand team.
Implementation Phase (Month 2-6) Launch coordinated content initiatives, establish AI-powered workflows for scalable personalization across all channels, optimize based on performance data, and create sustainable systems for ongoing strategic-creative collaboration across all teams.
Who We're Looking For
Someone who has a strong perspective on how content strategy has evolved in the AI era and understands how to navigate the complex relationship between organic growth, paid amplification, and brand building. You know how to create content that serves multiple objectives simultaneously and can articulate a clear point of view on where content marketing is heading.
AI & Content Tools Experience:
- Hands-on experience with Claude, ChatGPT, Jasper, or similar AI writing tools for content creation and optimization
- Experience with AI-powered SEO tools
- Familiarity with content automation platforms (content scheduling tools)
- Experience building AI prompting frameworks and content templates
Analytics & Performance Tools:
- Advanced Google Analytics and Search Console experience
- Experience with content performance tools like BuzzSumo, Ahrefs, or SEMrush
- Familiarity with social media analytics platforms and paid social reporting
Content Management & Workflow Tools:
- Experience with content management systems (WordPress, Contentful)
- Project management platforms for content operations (Asana)
- Editorial calendar and workflow management experience
- Experience with content approval and brand compliance tools
Industry Experience:
- 5+ years at high-growth tech companies, preferably marketplace or proptech
- AI experience is a must - for both tooling and a perspective of content in the new AI era
- Experience managing content budgets
- Track record of scaling content operations from 30+ pieces/month to 100+ pieces/month
- Experience working with both in-house teams and external agencies
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Experience briefing creative teams and translating strategy into actionable creative direction
- History of working closely with product marketing to turn feature launches into content campaigns
- Experience coordinating with SEO, paid marketing, and brand teams on integrated campaigns
- Track record of presenting content strategy and performance to executive stakeholders
Here's the Pay Range:
At Apartment List, we thoughtfully consider a range of factors when determining the compensation for contract roles, including the nature of the work, the scope of responsibilities, and the contractor’s relevant experience and skills. This role is offered on an hourly basis and is not eligible for employee benefits or equity participation.The hourly pay range for this contract position across U.S. locations is:
- Zone 1: $73.11 – $88.64/hour
- Zone 2: $67.62 – $81.99/hour
- Zone 3: $62.14 – $75.35/hour
These ranges represent our compensation targets for new contract engagements and may vary depending on factors such as work location, professional background, and specific expertise. In exceptional cases, compensation near the top of the range may be offered for candidates with highly relevant credentials, specialized knowledge, or extensive experience.We are committed to offering competitive and fair compensation, and we would be happy to share more about compensation during the hiring process.
