As a Data Engineer at Apartment List, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data infrastructure and data pipelines that serve as the backbone of our data and analytics platform. You will work closely with analysts, engineers, and data scientists to ensure that our data architecture supports high-performance, reliable, and real-time insights for the business. You will play a key role in maintaining and optimizing the systems that power our decision-making processes, and you’ll have the opportunity to grow your career by developing systems that are secure, scalable, and performant.
What you'll do as part of the team:
  • Build and maintain data pipelines (data ingestion, ETL, feature engineering, monitoring) using Apache Airflow that deliver high-quality, reliable, and real-time data for analysis and reporting.
  • Collaborate with analytics and business stakeholders to understand requirements and build data solutions that support key initiatives.
  • Leverage technologies such as Google BigQuery, DBT, Postgres, Datadog, and Jenkins to build mission critical data tables and ensure efficient resource utilization..
  • Implement best practices in data engineering, including data quality validation, comprehensive testing, and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in the data engineering stack by recommending and integrating new tools and technologies.
Skills and experience you'll need to be successful:
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on building scalable and high-performance data infrastructure using modern cloud technologies.
  • Strong experience working with cloud-based databases, particularly BigQuery, and understanding of data modeling and schema design principles.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing ETL pipelines with Airflow and DBT, including expertise in workflow scheduling and dependency management.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and other engineers.
  • Strong background collaborating closely with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders, demonstrating ownership of business-focused outcomes.
  • Demonstrated accountability in delivering reliable data solutions and meeting project timelines.
Here's the Pay Range:
At Apartment List, we carefully consider a variety of factors to determine compensation for each position, including the role, level, and work. The US base salary range for this position is:
  • Zone 1: $129,000 - $156,000 + equity
  • Zone 2: $119,000 - $145,000 + equity
  • Zone 3: $110,000 - $133,000 + equity
This reflects the compensation target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Please note, the compensation details provided do not include benefits and perks that we offer.
We also rely on market indicators along with considering your work location, job related skills, experience and relevant education and training, to determine compensation that is fair and competitive for you. Apartment List will consider paying compensation near the higher of the range in exceptional circumstances, where candidates have the experience, credentials or expertise that would warrant such consideration.
